Rosie receiving the 2022 Mambasa Patriotism Prize

This February, our In-country Director, Rosmarie Ruf, was presented with the 2022 Mambasa Patriotism Prize for her exceptional contributions to the conservation of the Okapi Wildlife Reserve. Rosie has been working in northeastern DR Congo with the Okapi Conservation Project since our founding, over 36 years ago. Through tribulations and celebrations, her unwavering perseverance has guided lasting relationships with local and indigenous communities, distinguished care for okapi, and countless conservation initiatives protective of the Reserve and all who call it home.

The ceremony was organized by the Mamabasa Civil Society, composed of seven notable institutions, including the Mambasa Women's Network, the Mambasa Territory Youth Council, the Christian and Muslim community, local media, and the office in charge of social affairs. This honor highlights visionary leadership and profound impact in conserving the natural and cultural heritage of the region. We take great pride in her accomplishments and extend our heartfelt congratulations on well-deserved recognition. Congratulations Rosie!
