OCP Calendars put Conservation in Everyone’s Home

Each year, our education team works together to identify key conservation messages to include in our annual conservation-focused calendar. These calendars have become increasingly popular and a staple source of conveying current information and actions on how to ensure the rainforests in the region remain intact and protected. After meeting with communities throughout the year, our education team meets with staff from the Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature (ICCN) and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) to develop a conservation-focused annual calendar, complete with captivating photos, information on current conservation topics and how communities can be good stewards of the forest to benefit people and wildlife.

This year, Disney Conservation Fund graciously supported the printing and delivery of these calendars to communities throughout eastern DRC, including inside the Okapi Wildlife Reserve. The 3,000 calendars were distributed to administrators of provincial agencies, primary and secondary schools and universities, and several churches and influential businesses in the communities.

These calendars are a source of excitement and pride within the community as it features several protected species and endemic species only found in the DRC, including the endangered okapi.

A huge thank you to all our educators who worked tirelessly to deliver the calendars throughout the region: Rogerdo FERUZI, Faustin MBUZA, Jean KAMBALE MASTAKI, Erick SIVUNAVA, Roger Hozande, Mélanie NAMELE, Célestin MUMBERE KAYENGA, TOLIBA MASEKO, Carine MAKONGA, Jean Paul M’MONGA KIETE, Berce NSAFUANSA.
