Celebrating Women and their Role in Protecting the Rainforest

On March 8th, OCP Women’s Groups celebrated International Women’s Day across the Reserve. Due to their reliance on the forest for food, clean water, timber and non-timber forest products to fulfill their families’ needs, women are important stakeholders in forest preservation. OCP Women’s Groups support the development of sustainable income, promote equity, and engage women in conservation education that encourages them to become active stewards of their lands and vocal advocates in their community for the environment. In celebration of International Women’s Day and their continued dedication and efforts, OCP provided sewing, embroidery, and knitting materials as well as several sewing machines to our Women’s Groups at all five extensions.
